Any undergraduate or graduate U of M student from any school.

-
Are you affiliated with the School of Public Health?
-
Yes, we are a School of Public Health organization but we welcome anyone from any major or school. We think that is actually a strong point of our organization having people across schools and disciplines that encourages more interesting dialogue.
-

-
What does CURIS mean?
-
It means care in Latin. It can also be translated to “healthcare”. We named ourselves CURIS because we are an organization that cares for local public health issues and aims to have humility and compassion in the work that we do.
-

-
What sort of issues do you work on?
-
We have new partners every year. Last year we worked with the Shelter Association of Washtenaw County on issues such as homelessness, job insecurity, and food insecurity. We are currently in the process of finding partners for the 2020-2021 academic year who we can work with remotely.

CURIS is currently partnering with a variety of different organizations. Please see our “2020-2021 Projects” tab for more information.
-

-
What have you done in the past?
-
We partnered with the Shelter Association of Washtenaw County last year, organizing a sleepout event called “Night Without a Home” to raise awareness on homelessness. We also did research on issues like job security, food security, and housing affordability. In each of our partnerships, we strive to promote health equity and awareness of public health issues within our members and the community.

-
What will the time commitment of this organization look like?
-
We have a hour-long general body meeting every other week. Committee meetings take place every other week to work on individual projects. There will also be some personal work responsibilities for an additional hour a week. In total, CURIS is about a 1-2 hour/week commitment.
-

-
What will a typical meeting look like?
-
We will start with attendance and general announcements. Then, we will have a continuing education presentation on a public health topic chosen by the presenter. Each committee will then update the general body about their progress on a specific project with our partner organization.
-

-
Do I have to reapply every year?
-
No, if you have shown yourself to be a committed member (through attendance and participation) you will remain in the club/organization
-

-
Why is there an application and recruitment process?
-
We want to make sure that members are committed to the organization and willing to put in the time and commitment. We are looking for dedicated members who are responsible and can work as a team. Going through this process will help to tell us these things. We also do not want too many students in the organization for it can be hard to create unity and get to know each other more closely.
-

-
If I do not get in, how can I reapply?
-
We assess recruitment needs at the end of each semester and will recruit a number of slots based on our needs.
-

-
How many spots are open?
-
We are not currently accepting new members. Please check back with us for the Fall 2021 recruiting season.
